Minimum order drives unit price directly. The same two-piece box at 300 versus 3000 units can differ sharply per piece, because setup and plate fees get diluted. Small batches can accept a higher unit price while testing, then scale up to spread cost once the style proves. Rushing to the lowest price on a tiny order often backfires.
Do not ignore hidden costs. Freight to warehouse, storage space, and the time of re-plating all cost real money. Some clients switch to cheaper lining to save twenty cents, only to get wrinkled goods on arrival and double the complaints—rework far exceeds the saving. Count these in the total.
A dull but useful way to budget packaging: set the retail price and target margin first, then work back to what packaging can take. For a product at five hundred yuan, keeping packaging at three to five percent of price is usually decent without hurting profit. Split that allowance into material, process and waste, so every cent is clear and easy to discuss with the factory.
Counting the packaging account is not about spending less, but spending where the customer can feel it. For a ring box, the open feel, the softness of the lining, the sharpness of the foil—that is the part the customer pays extra for. Think the cost through, and packaging finally speaks for the brand.
